Native Village of Eklutna

The Eklutna Native Village government office was organized in 1961 by the traditional people of Eklutna Village in order to be recognized for protecting land rights. The tribe became federally recognized by the Indian Tribal Governmental Tax Status Act of 1982. The Native Village of Eklutna is the only federally recognized Tribe within the Municipality's boundaries.

Anchorage School District

The Anchorage School Board is a municipal-wide elected body with governance responsibility for the Anchorage School District. As a governance board, responsibilities include setting a clear direction for the District; empowering and holding accountable the Superintendent for implementing our direction and managing District operations; developing and adopting policies and budgets that support and implement the Board’s direction; and modeling the professionalism and degree of effort they expect from students, families and staff.

Matanuska-Susitna Borough

Matanuska-Susitna Borough was created in 1964. The borough seat is Palmer, and the largest city is Wasilla. The borough was named for the valley that the Matanuska and Susitna Rivers formed. Matanuska-Susitna Borough is part of the Anchorage, AK Metropolitan Statistical Area. This Borough is one of the fastest increasing regions in Alaska and residents enjoy a rural lifestyle that is suitably close to municipal Anchorage with many residents commuting for work in Anchorage.​
