Welcome to the Office of Health Planning and Preparedness!
The mission of DHHS Division Health Planning and Preparedness is three-fold:
- Data, Policy and Planning Support - To support DHHS and the Anchorage community by collecting and maintaining critical community health data for policy making, community stakeholder use and planning. We share this data and work closely with the community to develop programs, partnerships and initiatives to address community health needs, preventing the disease and injury while increasing the quality of life in Anchorage.
- Public Health Emergency Preparedness (Bioterrorism) - To work closely with federal and state agencies, local partners (business and non-profit), hospitals, laboratories and law enforcement, doctors, nurses, paramedics and other medical personnel to ensure the community of Anchorage is prepared for a bioterrorism attack or a significant public health threat such as an outbreak of a deadly infectious disease.
- Health Promotion and Education– To promote health in the community through workplace physical activity programs, such as MuniSteps and Bike to Work day, and to provide education to the public on significant public health issues (Mayor’s Taskforce on Obesity and Health).
