The purpose of this Route Study is to recommend a feasible route to extend the Coastal Trail from its downtown terminus to the state-maintained trail paralleling the Glenn Highway near Boniface Parkway, approximately six miles up Ship Creek Valley. Two general corridors are being evaluated: one that follows Ship Creek as much as practical, and a north route that follows the bluff along the south edge of the Government Hill and Elmendorf Air Force Base. The study recommends constructing the Ship Creek Route.
