Renewal Information:

A renewal reminder will be e-mailed to you about one month in advance of the expiration date of your license/permit.  During a lapse in renewal, your license/permit is considered invalid.

When applying for a renewal, please be prepared to provide:​​

  • Completed Application
  • Picture Identification
  • Cash, Check, or Credit Card Payment (maybe taken over the phone)
  • Copy of State of Alaska Business License -  All businesses operating in the State of Alaska require a State of Alaska Business License.
  • Other Required Documentation Related to License/Permit if applicable
  • Additional Licensing and/or Permitting may be required by other municipal departments for businesses that operate in Anchorage.  

Submit your renewal in-person at the Municipal Clerk's Office. (While on business at City Hall, free parking is located in the parking lot behind the building on 7th Avenue, between F and G Streets.)  
Submit your renewal by mail or e-mail to the Municipal Clerk's Office. For information about the location and hours of the Municipal Clerk's Office including the mailing address, go to the Contact I​nformation webpage. Please include all required documentation, application, and payment.  


Municipal Marijuana Establishment Licenses

The Municipality of Anchorage will only be accepting applications for a new Municipal Marijuana Establishment License and Special Land Use Permit after the applicant’s State of Alaska Marijuana Establishment License application has been deemed completed by the Alaska Marijuana Control Board. For information on the State of Alaska Marijuana License, please contact the Alcohol & Marijuana Control Office

Special Land Use Permits for marijuana are required for all establishments applying for a new marijuana license within the Municipality of Anchorage.  For information regarding the ​application process for the Special Land Use Permit for Marijuana, please contact the Planning Department at 343-8211. Municipal Review of Alcoh​ol Licenses ​​

Action on Alcohol Licenses by the Local Governing Body:​

The Anchorage Assembly receives alcohol license applications from the State of Alaska for premises located within the Municipality of Anchorage.  Based on specific criteria laid out in AMC 2.30.120 and AMC 10.50, the Assembly will make a recommendation to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board for waive of protest (non-objection) or protest of the license.

Special Land Use Permits for alcohol are required for all establishments applying for a liquor license within the Municipality of Anchorage.  For information regarding the APPLICATIO​N​ for Special Land Use Permit for Alcohol, please contact the Planning D​epartment at 343-8211.

Municipal Bar Safety Hour Permit:​​

​​Optional municipal permit allowing premises licensed by the state for the service and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Licensees may apply for a bar safety hour permit, and if granted, may remain open for persons to consume food or nonalcoholic beverages between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on Saturday or Sunday or on a legal holiday.
