The Anchorage Assembly will begin the new year with a packed agenda on January 9, including a public hearing on AO 2023-137 to authorize a new version of the Holtan Hills land disposal proposal and a vote to reconsider AO 2023-81 to rename the Port of Alaska.
AO 2023-81 Port of Alaska
After a long debate at the December 19 Regular Assembly Meeting, the Assembly voted to indefinitely postpone AO 2023-81, a proposal to rename the Port of Alaska: “The Don Young Port of Anchorage."
On December 20, Assembly Member Felix Rivera moved to reconsider the item and after seconding the motion, Assembly Chair Christopher Constant said, “If the Assembly votes to reconsider the proposal, I intend to ask members to postpone the item to February so that we can hold a worksession and review options."
Per AMC 2.30.065.B.8, a motion to reconsider can be made within 24 hours of an Assembly action by a member who voted on the prevailing side. Once seconded, the motion to reconsider suspends the effect of the Assembly's initial decision until the Assembly takes action on whether or not to reconsider the item. The Assembly will vote to reconsider AO 2023-81 at the January 9 Regular Assembly Meeting.
AO 2023-137 Holtan Hills Land Disposal
Assembly Vice Chair Meg Zaletel introduced a new proposal to dispose Heritage Land Bank (HLB) property in Girdwood to CY Investments for a multi-use residential development, “Holtan Hills," at the December 19 Regular Assembly Meeting. The new version would require the developer to designate a multifamily unit to a future Girdwood housing trust or non-profit entity and the engage the Girdwood Board of Supervisors throughout the project.
A public hearing on the item will open during the January 9 Regular Assembly Meeting and Vice Chair Zaletel intends to continue the public hearing to January 23.
