Today, Assembly Member Felix Rivera, Chair of the Committee on Housing & Homelessness, finalized a timeline for the public process of the Clean Slate Strategy to get shelter up and running by November 1, 2023.
The timeline establishes three key elements of the public process:
Community Engagements
This spring, the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness will host community-driven conversations centered around the Anchored Home Plan and assumptions of emergency shelter. Virtual and in-person participation options are available.
Town Halls
Over the summer, the Assembly Committee on Housing & Homelessness will partner with the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness to host a series of town halls to inform selection criteria for permanent year-round low-barrier shelter. Town Halls will focus on what a well-run shelter could look like, including discussions on shelter licensing, neighborhood mitigation, and examples of well-run shelter throughout the country. Town Halls will take place in-person at the Loussac Library in the Wilda Marston Theatre.
Assembly Action
Over the course of the public process, the Assembly Committee on Housing & Homelessness will convene to draft the appropriate selection criteria for permanent year-round low-barrier shelter, informed by community input, to be submitted to the Assembly for public hearing on July 11.
