Leadership Summit on Complex Behavioral Health Needs on Aug 29

8/28/2023

A Leadership Summit will be held tomorrow to bring statewide decision-makers together to address the needs of people with complex behavioral health issues in Anchorage who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

The Summit will be held at the Mountain View Library from 10 am to 1pm on Tuesday, August 29. The event is open to the public, although participation will be limited to invited guests.

“The Summit is hosted by the Anchorage Assembly's Community Task Force on Complex Behavioral Health Needs, a group of health care providers, advocates, public servants, and community members who have been collaborating over the past few months to identify priorities and hurdles in the state and municipality's behavioral health systems," said Assembly Member Felix Rivera, Chair of the Housing and Homelessness Committee. “Tomorrow, they will have an opportunity to present their findings to statewide and local decision makers for a broader discussion on solutions."

“The task force has been meeting all summer and it's been eye-opening to hear from so many providers and community members about their experiences navigating the behavioral health system," said Assembly Member Daniel Volland, Chair of the Health Policy Committee. “They've really honed in on some areas for immediate improvement and proposals for long-term solutions. I'm excited to see them present their findings to leaders in our municipality and state who can put the recommendations into action."
