During a special Public Health & Safety Committee meeting last month, Committee Chair Kameron Perez-Verdia expressed intent to host a community conversation on the topic of recent officer-involved shootings. Today, he announced the following update:
“It's clear that our community needs space to grieve, reflect and heal from the rippling impacts of recent officer-involved shootings and government needs to listen. Although I expressed intent to host a community conversation on Friday, September 6, I am pleased to step aside in support of an event hosted by a coalition of community organizations:
A Community Conversation About Public Safety

Member Perez-Verdia concluded, “With sincere gratitude to the Alaska Coalition for Justice and all of the involved organizations carving space for this conversation, I encourage our community to attend."
