In collaboration with the University of Alaska, the Municipality of Anchorage created a Climate Action Plan (CAP) that will focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preparing for the impacts of climate change.
What is a Climate Action Plan?
A strategic framework for measuring and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to the impacts of climate change. Cities utilize climate action plans as roadmaps for making informed decisions on how to achieve emissions reductions and improve community resilience.
The Anchorage CAP takes into account Anchorage's community-wide greenhouse gas emissions, projected climate impacts in Anchorage, and the priorities and concerns of Anchorage residents. The CAP prioritizes actions that result in substantial environmental and community benefits, such as improving equity, economic prosperity, environmental quality, and public health.
The CAP consists of seven sectors: Buildings and Energy, Land Use and Transportation, Health and Emergency Preparedness, Urban Forest and Watersheds, Consumption and Solid Waste, Food Systems, and Outreach and Education.
