                                  Art Contest Information


The 2021 Annual Traffic Report contains information regarding traffic on roadways and trails within the Municipality of Anchorage.
This report is produced annually and the current edition, to be printed in 2022, reflects information collected during the previous year.

The spirit of this art contest is to convey a positive message about the significant role that transportation plays in our lives,
and to promote a greater public awareness of traffic safety. The goal is to get students to think about safety and how it can be
improved while traveling on our roads, paths and trails.

Prizes:

The grand prize winner will have their artwork printed on the cover of the 2021 Annual Traffic Report.

All students whose artwork is utilized or ideas are quoted, in the 2021 Annual Traffic Report, will receive certificates for their
participation.

Rules and Regulations:

1. Submit an original drawing or painting about either of the following themes:

​a. Being safe in or around traffic
b. Travel on our Roadways, Pathways, and/or Trails.


​2. Entries will be judged on: visual impact, how well the required spirit and themes were portrayed, artistic merit, and originality of concept.

3. Monday, February 28, 2022 is the last date for hand delivery or postmark. Entries hand delivered or postmarked after this date will be
    disqualified. Mail or bring entries to the:

4. The contest is open to all grade levels and more than one submission is allowed. Participants can be students enrolled in: before
    school, after school, or in-service are within the Municipality of Anchorage. Participants may not be immediate family members to
    Traffic Engineering Department employees.

5. Submissions must be a drawing or painting, The size must be eight and a half inches (8 1/2") by eleven inches (11") and should not
    include a mat or border. Please nothing smaller or larger. Entries must not be framed, under glass, or have a protective covering
    attached (fixative spray is permissible).​

    Artwork may be black and white or multicolored. It may be done in any of the following media: pencils, crayons, tempera paint, ink,
    pastels, watercolor, etchings, acrylics, block art from originally created blocks, airbrush, collage of original art or colored paper,
    markers​, or other similar media.

    No lettering, signatures, identifying marks, or initials may appear on the front of the design.

    All art must be original and must pertain only to the listed themes. The design must be the contestant's original creation. The design
    may not be a copy or duplicate of any previously published art, including photographs.

    Unacceptable submissions include three-dimensional, mechanically generated, electronically generated, unoriginal art, copies,
    tracings, photographs, any art created with oil paint, and/or artwork that does not have a completed entry form. Entries must not
    exceed one-quarter (1/4") in thickness.

6. Those with special needs may get assistance with their art submissions from counselors, instructors, and/or parents, but the
    entry form must note the type of assistance provided.

7. The provided entry form needs to be filled out completely and legibly. All entry forms must be attached firmly with glue and/or tape
    to the back of the art submission.

    In the event that the entry form becomes separated from the associated artwork, the student's name should be neatly printed on
    the back side.

    The participant's signature on the entry form is an acknowledgement of the originality of the artwork and idea. A counselor's or
    instructor's signature will certify that the artwork and idea were created under his/her supervision and are original to the
    participating student.

    Students may seek assistance in filling out the entry form.

8. Submissions that do not comply with any of the contest requirements will be disqualified.

9. The Municipality of Anchorage cannot be held responsible for any late, lost, stolen, or damaged entries. Submissions cannot
    be returned and become the property of the Municipality of Anchorage. The Municipality of Anchorage retains ownership of all
    artwork and ideas entered in the contest and may use any of the artwork or ideas, in whole or in part, for public informational
    materials, exhibits, or to promote the contest. The Municipality of Anchorage reserves the exclusive right to use the student's name
    and authorize the reproduction of all entries in any form, including brochures, fliers, posters, etc., and to photograph the winning
    designs, without compensation to the students or participating organizations.
