The wider the better (for shoulders). The road needs to be as safe as possible for all vehicles.

Regarding the proposed improvements of Kincaid Road; I am in support of increasing the shoulder widths to 4 feet. I am a recreational and health based bike rider and although I enjoy the modest pace along the bike trail system, true training (for cardio performance, weightloss, and endurance training)is performed at speeds unsafe for others who use the bike trails, such as walkers, joggers, rollerbladers, and parents with strollers and small children. I often ride at speeds between 15mph and up to 30mph on my road bike, and wish to avoid risking others and myself. The training speeds require use of the road systems, however, motorized vehicles will always win when it comes to a collision between biker and car. I take the time to plan my routes, so that I am not on major roadways, but often ride my bike from as few as 10 miles, to as many as 50 miles. Kincaid Park is a wonderful, out of the way, setting that is easily used for bike training, if the shoudlers are widened to provide for safe vehicle and biker traffic. Thank you for your time and consideration, Dr. Laura Culp Elliott
