For WECS that will be connected to the power grid Utility Notification must occur. To consolidate and save time for all involved the administrative site plan review should include a copy of the application for interconnection with their electric utility provider. Also the ordinance should reference adherence to power grid through net metering requirements. Lastly, the ordinance should state that WECS should not be located within or over utility easement. | |

Where do the utilities come in the review process? ML&P would like to review the potential sighting of the tower base before it is installed. There are NESC (National Electrical Safety Code) and State clearances that need to be held to. Is the reviewing authority going to know what to look for? We've seen many projects where the actual wires aren't accounted for, only the center of the pole line. Since the actual wires are typically 4-5 feet out from the pole line, clearance issues arrise. Electric utilities are used to looking for these occurances and can protentially head off a problem before it arrises. Thank you. |
