Crews continued peeling and winging back in Chugiak area, Sanders plowed slush off mains fielded sanding requests. Crews responded to a plowable event of 5 inches up Hiland valley.

A grader team plowed around numerous school areas and main “neighborhood thoroughfares" to open parking, areas around the schools, and school drop-off and pick -up access. Most schools in town had already been plowed during our residential plowing. The list below are the schools, and the general location in residential areas, that we had plowed last night:

Crews completed peeling and winging back above the loop road between Stewart Dr and Loop Rd and up Skyline Dr.
On 11/16/23 crews will start to peel/wing in Chugiak Starting at Fish Hatchery and at Chapel
Sanders started a 4 a.m. on 11/16 cleaning mains and sand requests.

Plow-out Status

Sander trucks with belly-blades plowed mains and arterials all day. The sanders were about to keep lanes of travel open throughout Anchorage. Graders will go back tonight and put the finishing touches on the mains.
Assisted AFD in rescuing numerous stuck fire trucks and ambulances.

Eagle River
Eagle River Update 11/13/2023
With the snow storm that moved in early morning getting anywhere from 6-10 inches, and we concentrated on keeping our mains opened and sanded. As soon as the snow stopped we started to plow out eagle river valley and hiland valley.
We will be in a full plow out at 4am 11/14
All of our contract equipment is up and running.

Day Shift (today)
- Due to changes in weather conditions, Street Maintenance will be making the following changes to today’s Plowing Operations:
- Day Shift has begun plowing Arterial and Collector Roads throughout Anchorage using sanders with belly-blades.
- Graders are continuing to plow in Residential Areas for the remainder of the morning, until enough accumulation warrants Graders to begin plowing Arterials and Collectors.
- The timing of when to pull graders out of residentials and onto mains will be evaluated around noon today. It is inevitable that we will at some point today/tonight be plowing Arterials and Collectors with all Graders.
- Once it stops snowing and all Arterials and Collectors are complete, Plow crews will begin a new residential plow out using a “Plow Plan A”.

Residential peeling and winging back continued today finishing Hiland valley area and completing the low side of Eagle River Valley.

11/11/23, 5 p.m.
All of today's efforts consisted of cleanup of partial areas that could not be hit because of parked cars yesterday and 80% of Hiland Valley is complete. It will be completed first thing in the morning and then continuing on out in Eagle River Valley, 4am sander and a noon start sander for the evening.
Girdwood
11/11/23 6:30 p.m.
We wrapped up post storm cleanup this evening. All areas have been plowed, peeled down and widen. All pedestrian walkways have been cleaned.
Switching gears to get prepared for Sunday nights incoming Strom. Equipment repair and clearing the street maintenance yard is the plan tomorrow and on-call for service request.

Eagle River
Update 11/11/23, 9 a.m.
All neighborhoods have been opened up as of yesterday mid-day. Focus has been shifted to clean up and push back to make room for more snow and peel up the pac. All four Eagle River graders are up and working up Hiland Valley. Crews will continue through the weekend into Eagle River Valley, as these are areas that had the most snow. Sanders are on shift throughout the day.
Girdwood
Update 11/10/23 5:30 p.m.
- Townsquare. It typically takes 3 hours to clear snow, but today, it took 6 hours due to how much snow we got and the weight of it.
- We focused on the upper valley in the zone we call Timberline and Airport neighborhoods. All roads in these zones have been redone to peel down the snowpack and push back the berms.
- Start opening the Pedestrian pathways and sidewalks.
- Lots of down trees have been removed from the roads.
- Several drainage issues were resolved with the wet snow plugging stream culverts.
The road crew will return tomorrow at 4 am to continue clearing pedestrian pathways and peeling and widening roads in preparation for the upcoming weather events.
Friday, November 10
Anchorage Bowl
Update November 10, 2023, 8:15 a.m.
Night Shift crews working the central business district (CBD) hauled East and West streets. We received 30 additional trucks to assist with the snow removal operations and hauled 600 loads of snow.
Crews will head back down to CBD tonight to continue haul out on North/South Streets with a smaller crew.
All others that are not hauling CBD tonight will be plowing in Industrial Areas, along with some residential areas.
Unit 4 main roads were plowed last night as well.
Day Shift (11/10/23)
Arterial and Collector Streets should be completed around noon.
Residential plowing will resume using a modified Plow Plan “A” where we left off from our original plow-out.
Trials and Sidewalks will begin another round beginning with Priority 1’s.
Eagle River Area
Update November 9, 2023, 9 p.m.
Crews worked for 16 hours to clear streets. There are three remaining subdivisions to clear: Eagle Ridge, Parkview Terrace West, and Yosemite. Crews will begin operations in those areas at 6 a.m. to finish them off in short fashion.
Girdwood
Update November 9, 2023, 7 p.m.
All roads maintained by the city are plowed and passable. At 4 a.m. November 10 crews will go over everything again to peel, widen and get Pedestrian pathways open. Girdwood had snow accumulation as high as 38”, the average was 28” across the valley.
Thursday, November 9
Anchorage Bowl
Street maintenance continues to work on arterial (main roads), collector (roads that lead to main roads) roads and the sidewalks on these streets. Crews are working around the clock and currently have 26 graders, 6 sanders and 6 sidewalk tractors operating. Additional contractors have been called in to help with the snow event.
Eagle River
Snow accumulation at a minimum of 8" and upwards of 20" in the past 24 hours. There was a 2-hour period of rain in the early morning, as well. The Eagle River maintenance contractor is in full force, to include 14 plow trucks, 2 sanders, and 4 road graders with nose plows and wings, and 4 belly blade sander trucks with nose plows. One belly blade sander truck is currently off the road due to a maintenance issue.
Crews started at 4 a.m. and are struggling through this wet and very heavy snow but are doing they very best they can to mitigate this large storm.
Girdwood
Snow accumulation is 36" at higher elevation roads, and it's still snowing hard. Plow Crews have gotten into the subdivision roads and working through the streets. Street maintenance crews aim to get things open today with passable lanes and return over the next several days to push berms back.
