Did you know there are 15 residential zones in the Anchorage Bowl? – and that's just the zoning district rules! A complex, prescriptive rulebook stands in the way of the diverse, abundant housing that Anchorage badly needs. Simplifying these rules, and giving property owners more flexibility to build and renovate housing that suits their needs, is a critical step to address our housing shortage. That's why Assembly Members Anna Brawley, Daniel Volland and Meg Zaletel proposed the HOME Initiative, which would streamline Anchorage's residential zoning to 5 zoning districts and make the rules more consistent for similar zones.
Join the Assembly sponsors on March 4 at 6PM on Microsoft Teams to learn more about the proposal, understand what it means for different zones, and weigh in on this effort to improve the rules that shape our neighborhoods.
