About Housing Action Week
Anchorage is in the midst of a housing shortage crisis. We simply don't have enough diverse, affordable housing opportunities for everyone who wants to live here.
The Anchorage Assembly wants to convene the community to work on solutions and we need your help!
The Assembly has proclaimed October 30 - November 4, 2023 as Housing Action Week, culminating in a Community Housing Action Summit on Friday, November 3, and we want to fill up the entire week with programs, events, and activities to engage all parts of our community in this important discussion.
Call for Programs
Are you or your organization excited about hosting a program between October 30 to November 4? If so, tell us more about your event. If accepted as a program, your event will be featured on our official Housing Action Week calendar.
Program Themes
Housing Action Week is an opportunity to explore a range of perspectives related to housing policy and quality of life. Program proposals will be favored if they relate to one or more of the following themes:
- Growing Up, Not Out
Exploring the unique opportunities for future growth presented by Anchorage's environment, resources and role as Alaska's largest urban center.
- Barriers to Building Housing
Dissecting the local laws, market characteristics, and lived experiences that work against dreams for building housing units - new and reimagined.
- Innovation in the Last Frontier
Imagining what housing and urban development could look like with Alaskan ingenuity behind it. What problems will our city face in the next 50 years and what technologies could be used to ensure abundant and safe housing? - How Did We Get Here?
Articulating where we are and reflecting on the history of Anchorage development, code reform, and the personalities that have shaped the landscape of our community - literally and figuratively.
Submission Timeline
The call for programs will be open until 11:45pm on Saturday, September 30. We'll announce the final calendar by Tues. October 10.
