The ACTION of reducing the severity, seriousness, or painfulness of something
There are many ways to mitigate on a community level. These include:
- Land use and zoning data is
utilized by the Municipality of Anchorage from many sources to inform on future
land use and zoning (not an all-inclusive list).
- Building codes
- Floodplain Mapping
- Burying of powerlines and cable lines
- Forest Management
- Insurance Programs
- Fire mitigation such as dead tree clearing and maintaining Firewise with The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
The Municipality of Anchorage All-Hazards Mitigation Plan
The Anchorage All-Hazards Mitigation Plan details projects and plans to make Anchorage more resilient for known hazards the community faces.
The plan's main purpose is:
- Identification of Hazards that may impact the Anchorage Vulnerability Assessment
- Assessment of the MOA's capability to mitigate hazards
- Hazards mitigation goals and objectives
- Hazards mitigation actions and/or projects
- Implementation Strategy
- Plan Maintenance Strategy
