The Municipality of Anchorage is not immune to acts of terrorism
An act of terrorism is considered unlikely in the MOA, but the consequences of a terrorism act could be terrible. There are several things you can do today to prepare:
Before an act of terrorism:
- Make a plan
- Build a kit
- If You See Something, Say Something
- If you feel uncomfortable, leave the area
- Do not accept packages from strangers.
- Do not leave luggage unattended;
- Learn where emergency exits are located in buildings you go to.
- Know what the current federal threat advisories say
During an act of terrorism:
- Remain calm and be patient
- Follow instructions of local officials
- Listen to radio or television for news and instructions
- Check for injuries, give first aid and get help for seriously injured people
- Call your family contact, do not use the phone again unless it is an emergency
After an act of terrorism:- Expect a lot of law enforcement as they investigate the act
- Health and mental health services may be overwhelmed
- Workplaces and schools may be closed
- Restrictions on travel may occur
- Limit the amount of news children watch as they can be very upsetting.
- Monitor your mental health and take breaks from television news
