Anchorage Parks and Recreation

Wildfire Fuels Mitigation Project

Project Overview

To reduce the risk of wildfires to homes and businesses, the Municipality of Anchorage Department of Parks and Recreation, the Anchorage Fire Department, and the Office of Emergency Management have partnered to remove potential hazardous fuel sources such as dead standing or fallen spruce trees that killed by spruce bark beetle infestations. Removing dead woody material not only decreases wildfire potential but also reduces risk to trail users and park facilities from falling debris.

Trail Etiquette and Safety

  • Please watch for signs indicating that the crews and chippers are working.
  • Give workers plenty of space while using the park.
  • To keep crews and your pets safe please keep your dog(s) leashed and close by when passing work areas.
  • Please be aware of noise levels as it may be loud near chainsaw use.
  • Pay attention to any chipper machines and vehicles.

Report a Hazard Tree

If you notice a tree that has fallen or poses a risk of falling or causing damage, let us know so we can take appropriate action. Your attentiveness helps protect our parks, public spaces, and neighborhoods.
