People Mover's Bus Stop Sign Pilot Project

Bus stop signs are your entrance to the People Mover bus system, and we're excited to share a new draft design. This pilot project will be implemented along Route 25 with the metal signs depicted below replacing the paper schedules currently posted at bus stops. The project accompanies the recent technology upgrade that now enables riders to track buses in real-time. As a result, People Mover can implement more frequent service changes and offer real-time transit data to riders.

We value your feedback on this project and your input will help us to evaluate the new design before considering expanding to other routes. Please provide your input by taking the survey below, via email to transitplanning@muni.org or by calling (907) 343-6543 to speak with Customer Service staff. Additionally, if you'd like to stay informed about the latest updates from the Public Transportation Department, consider signing up for our newsletter by clicking here.

New Bus Stop Sign Survey

With these new signs, riders can anticipate the following changes:

  1. Appearance: The redesigned signs will be larger and easier to read. They will feature updated logos and color-coded route information prominently, based on trip frequencies:
    • Red indicates buses arriving approximately every 15 minutes (Routes 10, 20, 30, and 40)
    • Blue indicates buses arriving approximately every 30 minutes (Routes 25, 31, 35, 41, 51, 55, and 65)
    • Green indicates buses arriving approximately every 30-60 minutes (Routes 11 and 85)
    • Gold indicates commuter routes with rush-hour service only (Route 92)
  2. Service Details: Signs will include the bus stop ID, route number and name, and access to rider information tools. As space is available, frequency and span of service information will be included. Stops served by only one route will feature that route’s map.
  3. Schedules: Riders will notice the removal of printed schedules. The new signs will feature a scannable QR code for real-time data, a text number to receive arrival times, and provide the People Mover Rideline phone number to assist with trip planning.

This transition will begin with Route 25 in October 2024, with plans to roll out the new bus stop signage system-wide in 2025.
