Public Pools and Spas

Pools and spas that are open to the public require a permit from the Food Safety & Sanitation (FSS) Program. Plan review is required prior to opening a new pool/spa facility and for an existing pool/spa facility that is to be remodeled. Plans must be submitted and approved by our office prior to any construction. Plans submitted for pool/spa plan review must include a to-scale diagram of the pool/spa including specifications for equipment. The Anchorage Health Department, Food Safety & Sanitation Program is responsible for responding to complaints regarding safety and sanitation issues in public pools and spas.
