Permitting

The permitting department processes applications for residential, commercial and land use permits. We process contractor licenses also. Permit Managers and/or a permit technician is assigned to your project upon submittal. They are your point of contact throughout the permitting/inspection process. No new submittals are accepted after 4:00 pm. We are located at 4700 Elmore Road.  Questions? Addressing

Municipal Addressing is the official regulatory authority on street addresses for the entire municipality. We create and maintain a collection of all existing, approved addresses and all private and public street names.

Code Abatement

Code Abatement Division investigates and responds to complaints related to performing work without permits, work performed by improperly licensed individuals, dangerous buildings, and vacant and abandoned buildings. Additionally, they perform code compliance inspections, business license inspections, and inspections on fire and water damaged buildings. Code Abatement is only responsible for structures that do not have an active permit.

Inspections

The Inspections Division provides progress inspections for permitted construction projects to ensure compliance to the locally adopted building codes and approved plans. Examples of types of inspections performed are structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and elevator. They also inspect retrofits such as water heater, boiler, furnace, unit heater, and fireplace replacements.

Land Use Enforcement

Land Use Enforcement enforces regulations including planning, land use, subdivision, and non-conforming uses. Examples of typical violations include zoning, structures encroaching on required setbacks, and junk cars on private property. Land Use Enforcement has the primary responsibility for Anchorage Municipal Code Title 21 but also has the ability to enforce approximately nine other codes as required.
