A.01 Emergency Escape Bedroom Windows in Existing Structures
Basements in dwelling units and every sleeping room below the fourth story shall have at least one operable emergency escape and rescue window or exterior door for emergency escape and rescue.
A.03 Commercial and Residential Re-roof
Permits are required for residential and commercial re-roofs in accordance with the Anchorage Administrative Code. Exception: Permits are not required for non-structural re-roof projects with a total construction valuation under $5,000.00. Permits are required for all structural work regardless of the valuation.

Consistent with State of Alaska Statute AS 34.08, Building Safety will require an approval letter from the applicable Condominium Association for all permits that include work to the common areas of the building, or those that will result in a structural change to the building.

The Building Safety Division Building Inspection Section is responsible for inspecting all Municipal sponsored construction for compliance with Title 21 and 23 of the Anchorage Municipal Codes. This includes construction that is outside the Municipality of Anchorage building service areas, which includes Land Use areas.

AG.58 Performing Electirial, Plumbing and Mechanical Work
AO 2021-88S, the Assembly changed municipal code regarding who can perform electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work. This change has resulted in the MOA being less strictive than the State. As a Temporary remedy, the MOA will follow State requirements regarding who can perform work.
AG.59 Enforcement of Required Egress on Triplex or Townhouse Construction
The means of egress (i.e. the ability to leave a building during an emergency) in a dwelling unit at a minimum shall include one egress door accessible from all portions of the dwelling that does not pass through a garage and one escape opening (e.g. window or door) from every sleeping room.
AG.60 Refunds on Expired Permit Fees
In accordance with Anchorage Municipal Code (AMC) 23.10.104.14.8 Permits are expired when no work has been completed (i.e. no inspections have been requested) for 360 days from the date of issuance, or from the date of the last inspection.
E.03 Residential Underground Wiring
Wiring to wells and septic systems are installed along with mechanical piping at depths that exceed the maximum two-foot deep requirement of NEC 300.5.

E.07 Access to Jetted Pump Motors and Electrical Outlets Supplying Power Thereto
When a builder or owner installs a bathtub with jetted pumps and electrical outlets supplying power to these pumps, consideration must be given to the specific location and access to the pump motor and/or electrical outlet.
E.08 Thaw Wire Installations within the Municipality of Anchorage
An electrical permit, based upon approved design and drawings, is required for thaw wire systems installation in conjunction with drainage facilities whether they are ditches, storm drains, or other land/surface type installations.
E.09 Emergency Electrical Service Inspections
Municipality of Anchorage Building Safety Electrical Inspectors are on call for required service inspections that are classified as emergency in nature.

This policy establishes procedures for coordinating the inspection of electrical facilities installed in State rights-of-way within the boundaries of the Anchorage Building Safety Service Area (ABSSA).
